my tongue was very sore while i had a broken molar. i had a crown placed on the tooth. how do i soothe the sore tongue? thank you?

: If there no more trauma from a defective tooth, you tongue will on its own. If it is not better in week or so, it would be prudent to see a doctor or dentist.

See a dentist: It sounds like you are asking about a chipped tooth and the rough edges are causing irritation of your tongue.
It can be as simple as smoothing a rough edge to needing a crown or even more.  Seeing a dentist would at least give you the chance to find out the state of the tooth and what your treatment options might be.

Recheck: I would go back to the doctor if they have been on antibiotic for 3 or more days already. I would make sure the strep is clearing and that the white on the tongue isn't oral thrush eat which would simply clear with a mouthwash designed to air the thrush.

Ice: Get small pieces of ice in you mouth.  Lightly suck on them.  This will put you in the habit of sucking on ice instead of rubbing your tongue on your teeth.

See your Dentist: Grinding of your teeth and sore tongue may be 2 separate problems or you may be traumatizing your tongue when you do grind.
You need to be examined by a competent dentist knowledgeable in temporomandibular dysfunction (tmd/ not / tmj) as grinding is not a joint problem but grinding is a neuromuscular problem.  There are specialist in tmd. Ask your dentist if he/she isn't comfortable diagnosing you.

Antibiotic: I assume the red area under your tongue is in proximity to the infected tooth.  Whether or not it is, area should be evaluated by your Dentist.  Antibiotic will not cure tooth infection, only reduce the spread of infection until tooth can receive root canal treatment or extraction.  If not, when pills run out infection will come roaring back.  Please call your Dentist now.

Stress or Anxiety: Problems with the tongue can result from infections, tumors, chronic disease (GERD)  and  stress also can cause this along with anxiety. See your GP for evaluation.

White: Anything white, on tissue that should be pink, should be investigated.  Could be thrush, lichen planus, candida, albicans, bacterial infection, herpes, leukoplakia, cancer, traumatic ulceration, or many other things.  See dentist for differential diagnosis and treatment.
