Probably not: RepHresh gel has not been studied for its effect against BV, but almost certainly would not be effective. Metronidazole by mouth is the treatment of choice, in both non pregnant and pregnant women. Vaginal metronidazole (MetroGel) is not nearly as reliable, but maybe worth a try. But I would suggest not wasting time, energy, or money on RepHresh. Discuss w/ your obstetrician. Good luck!

Yes: If you have symptoms of bacterial vaginosis while you are pregnant, it is very improtant to get it treated. Bv can cause preterm contractions. Your doctor will determine the best method of treating you based on which trimester you are in.

Don't mess around: Check with your OB or midwife about further treatment.  Please be aggressive in treating BV since it  can increase the risk of prematurity.  Please stick with your own ob's recommendations. Look into ways of preventing bv.   See

Can be treated : Bacterial vaginosis can be treated safely in pregnancy either with oral antibiotics or vaginal gel. Your doctor will need to prescribe this medication for you. Generally I do not treat with orals until the first trimester is complete.

Fertility expert: Your recurrent BV may be due to your partner recolonizing your vagina with organisms resident on his penis. Have him treated topically to reduce this.  You are not likely to have a significant reason to be evaluated by a fertility expert until you have tried without results for one year. Would start counting once your BV has cleared.

Not BV: BV does not affect your fertility. Almost 90% of women at your age will get pregnant within one year, so don;t despair.

: The main symptoms of BV are vaginal odor, often described as "fishy" and often especially common after sex. A gray vaginal discharge often is present, usually without itching or irritation. If you think you have BV, you also need testing for common STIs, especially gonorrhea and chlamydia (which sometimes trigger BV). Your gyn can evaluate all this, as well as advise you about fertility issues.

Bacterial Vaginosis: You should really see your doctor to be properly treated.  There is a risk that an untreated vaginal infection can ascend into the uterus and cause complications with your pregnancy.  Additionally, douching is never recommended, as this alters the natural bacterial balance of the vagina and can actually do more harm than good.

i have been treated for bv twice and it seems that musty odor always finds its way back, please help i am very concerned being that i am pregnant.

Don't worry: Bv, or bacterial vaginosis, is not harmful in pregnancy.  Bv is a common vaginal infection of bacterial overgrowth and imbalance in the vagina.  
Daily oral probiotics may help keep things in better balance. Bv also can bounce back and forth between partners - so make sure your partner is treated as well or he can give the infection right back to you.
