is it painful to pass gallstones?

It can be.: This can be a bit of a misnomer since gallstones usually cause pain by blocking the opening of the gallbladder rather than being 'passed', like kidney stones.  Occasionally, a small stone may exit the gallbladder and get stuck into the (common) bile duct where it can then 'pass' into the intestine.  Either way, it is the obstruction that causes the pain.

YES: and the "consistency" would depend upon it's chemical  structure (eg: BILE, CHOLESTEROL etc)

Get evaluated...: If you are having significant pain accompanied by fever, vomiting, feeling very sick in overall it is time to go to the ED for immediate evaluation since your gallbladder could be infected and it could be dangerous. If the pain is not severe but still having on and off symptoms then it is a good idea to see a surgeon and check if they recommend surgery at this time.

Gallstones: Once your biliary system makes gallstones it is ongoing. Passing the gallstones can be dangerous, if the stones get stuck in the duct system. I am not sure if "flushes" really work. However, avoiding fatty foods, increasing your hydration does help to control symptoms. Gallbladder removal with surgery is nearly always curative, as the stones originate in the gallbladder. Take friend to consult.

Only very small ones: Small gall stones that can pass  thru the cystic duct into  common duct   are the only ones that pass spontaneously.  The common larger stones drop to the ampulla of the GB where they can impact on the cystic  artery feeding the GB to initiate inflammation and necrosis.  These stones can only be removed by surgery either, cholecystectomy, or opening the GB to remove stones, the cholecystostomy

Some pass: Depends on size of stone and size of cystic duct and common duct.
Most stay put and irritate!

if asymptomatic, get through the pregnancy and then deal with cholecystectomy.

2mm gallstone and 6mm polyp on gallbladder... is lap chole the only answer or could i pass this small gallstone on my own? naturally?

Extremely unlikely : Gallbladder flushes are an extreme form of medical quackery - they do not work. If your stone is not causing symptoms, then you're gallbladder does not need to be removed. Polyps less than 1 cm can be watched but need to be checked to ensure that they are not growing.

: It is possible. If the stone was not large enough to cause obstruction, the duct would not dilate.

constipated for a week strain really hard to pass bowels i have right side groin & hip pain. can my constipation be related to my gallstones?

Chronic constipation: Think about your colon! it has to move that heavy load of old stool. A bowel regimen can help. The goal is two soft bowel movements daily. Add water, juices up to 1.5 liters daily, fiber tablets, laxatives (milk of magnesium or miralax), stool softeners, and probiotics, to a daily walk. If you have fever or vomiting, get evaluated by your doc. Constipation leads to vague abdominal complaints.
