Give indication: Xr, and anything without direct visualization give an indication as to what is suspected. The symptoms, the exam and the history makes a doctor arrive at a diagnosis as the most likely thing. If in doubt, then direct visualization needed. I hope that gives you reassurance.

ive seen doctors saying only laparoscopy can diagnose endometriosis, however my wifes obgyn performed ultrasound and harmone essay, annd blood tests too and diagnosed endometriosis, and advised for mirena. confused?

Ultrasound can diagnose endometriosis in some  but may miss it in others. If ultrasound is negative and endometriosis suspected then laparoscopy would be done.

can u still have endometriosis or ovarian cancer w/ a clear transvaginal ultrasound? my doc says my ovaries are normal and my tiny cyst is gone. i have tons of pelvic pain & my mom has the brca2 gene.

PELVIC PAIN: Endometriosis causes. Lot of pelvic pain but if your  ultrasound is normal , listen to your md. Take rx for pelvic pain.

Worrisome: A 27 year old female comments that her doctor used transvaginal ultrasound to "show endometriosis".   I am not aware that ultrasound can be used to make this diagnosis.  Perhaps a gynecologist can confirm or refute this diagnostic phenomenon.  In my opinion, the diagnosis of endometriosis should only be made if tissue pathology confirms.

Rarely: In a normal 18 year-old woman, it should be easy to insert into her vagina something the size of one or two fingers with no problem. First, doctors generally do not discuss an 18 year-old's vaginal issues with her parents, and don't imply virginity or non-virginity. Secondly, an older teen can see a doctor separate from one who takes care of family members, for more privacy (that's the norm).

Difference: Endometriosis is the spread of endometrial tissue from beyond the inside of the uterus into different parts of the abdomen and pelvis.  This tissue "menstruates" along with a typical cycle, which can causes enormous pain.  Ovarian torsion is the twisting of the ovary (and its vascular supply) along its axis, which can starve the ovary of blood and cause pain.

Endometriosis: Endometriosis is a bening disease defined by the presence of endometrial glands ( lining of inside the uterus) outside the uterus and its associated with pelvic pain and infertility. The disease tends to progress and recurrs. Primary dysmenorrhea is when no specific diagnosis has been made and secondary dysmenorrhea is when an actual medical condition has been diagnosed.

Apples and oranges: Dysmenorrhea is a symptom.  Endometriosis is a disease.   They are not either/or.   People with endometriosis generally have dysmenorrhea, if they have a uterus.  People with dysmenorrhea may have endometriosis, and if the pain is severe they often do.
