Should not: Cause a cramp. That would be from something else. As you have ehlers danlos  you could have pulled something . You need an eval!!

Deconditioning: Is likey the issue.  Pain can act as a hindrance to activity and once pain subsides the inactivity can cause disuse weakness.  Work with a physical therapist to activate and strengthen those muscles.  See your physician for an evaluation. To evaluate for muscle atrophy , reflexes  to  see if there are any neurological issues to be concerned about.

A charlie horse.....: Large muscles use a lot of energy to do work, and this is supplied by blood. If the supply is not adequate their can be painful spasm; and if metabolites from heavy activity are not removed there can be spasm. Other causes can be a trapped nerve root irritating the muscle. Some people have greater likelihood of spasm due to underlying genetic causes.

Multiple factors:: low potassium, low calcium, muscle overuse, trauma, dehydration are common causes. Massage with Bio-Freeze and stretch by pulling toes toward your chest or stand and lift your up using foot and toes ( calf stretch), I suggest electrolyte rich drinks ( Powerade, Gatorade, Vitamin Water, Pedialyte) and calcium tablets ( Caltrate)

Muscle spasm: Muscle spasms can be triggered by dehydration, muscle fatigue (an overworked muscle) or electrolyte imbalance (such as sodium or potassium). Consider improving hydration and also address the role daily activities contribute to calf fatigue (choices in footwear, and prolonged walking or standing). Comfortable, supportive shoes may help. Consider magnesium supplements as well.

Yes: In a young person like yourself, you might want to get a neurosurgery consult.  Atrophy of muscle due to a disc bulge is an indication for surgery.  Pain from a disc can be treated with medication and physical therapy in many cases; muscle atrophy or loss of function cannot.

You : You could have a cord compression or myelopathy but this is not very common. This type of problem is more common with pinched nerves to the low back. Another possibility with calf pain is a blood clot in the area which should be evaluated immediately. Tell your doctor right away. After examination he may request a doppler test for further evaluation.

TOO YOUNG FOR PAD: You are too young for PAD I will worry more about DVT. Specially if you have some swelling with the calf tenderness. Sciatica : Sciatica is a definite possibility.  This usually is caused by pressure on the nerve commonly as it exits your lower spine from a disc bulge or herniation, or possibly from a bone spur.  Stretching exercises, physical therapy, chiropractic care are all reasonable initial treatments.  However, if the pain persists or is associated with more severe symptoms such as numbness, tingling, weakness, or bowel/bladder incontinence -- you need to seek medical attention from an orthopedic surgeon or neurosurgeon.
