Compression socks: You can try some compression stockings. Also a massage therapist that specializes in lymphedema treatment may be helpful. If there is any chance of recurrent DVT see your doctor right away.

Indefinitely: Up to few months from the initial episode acute symptoms may improve at least partially, up to half of cases develop post-thrombotic syndrome with chronic pain and swelling.

DVT: The treatment is anticoagulants like heparin/coumadin.  If there is contraindications to anti coagulation, or if it is ineffective, sometimes an inferior vena cava filter is necessary.  With treatment the clot may resolve completely.

Irregular ovulation: Possible polycystic ovaries (PCO), not releasing an egg on schedule.  Hormone irregularities from  PCO, may raise some levels of estrogen, possibly increasing your risk for recurrent DVT.  Discuss this with your doctor to be sure.

Best to: check to see if her blood is too thick - hypercoagulable. Need to remove or dissolve current clot. The underlying narrowing then can be treated - possibly a stent. She may need Coumadin (warfarin) or Xeralto for a lifetime. Once clot gone use compression hose for leg swelling. Elevate her legs when possible.

Left leg dvt: I would consider getting evaluated for a May turner given your second left leg dvt. This is a functional iliac vein instruction in the left side that can sometimes be found in young women. If there is an obstruction that can be addressed, chances of recurrent dvt would be decreased.
