injured knuckle at calcium deposit  :  i have a calcium deposit on my right ring finger middle knuckle.  today i smashed it.  did i bust the deposit?

Possibly: Smashing a joint with spurs and other calcium deposits can break those hardened structures because they are brittle, hard and unbending.  If marked swelling, discoloration, & increasing pain and unable to use, one should splint and rest for several days and gradually begin movement as tolerated.  If really concerned about a fracture(broken bone), get it examined by a doctor asap.

purple-ish/black dot under nail with calcium deposits around it. fairly certain recent trauma (jamming finger)... fitting for subungual hematoma?

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Sure sounds like it, but it must be mild because usually one has to relieve the pressure but perforating the nail. if it's only a small area of bruising and you did have recent trauma and as long as it's not painful you don't ned to do anything other than wait for it to grow out/heal. If it changes in any way, and you think there is not another explanation (e.g. trauma) let your doc have a look.

i feel pain in my finger joints every morning. can it be because of deficiency of calcium?

Pain: I would say that calcium deficiency may cause muscle weakness and cramps, not joint pain.  If you are waking up with constant pain and it gets better with movement, it may be arthritis.

Go ahead: But do not take too much, i would start with only 400 u a day and repeat ca and vit d levels.

If : If you have not already done so, you should be evaluated by a rheumatologist to assess your joint involvement.  They can confirm the diagnosis, and come up with a treatment regimen that usually involves medication and exercise.  They will also monitor the progression of the disease.

Sometimes the level: of calcium in the urine or blood is so high that it precipitates and forms deposits in the kidney called nephrocalcinosis. The is related to, but not the same as kidney stones. It can be caused by several genetic syndromes, hyperparathyroidism and vitamin D toxicity, certain meds, TB, renal tubular acidosis, etc. It is usually managed by treated the underlying condition. Maybe a cyst?: Sebaceous cysts are over mistaken for a calcium deposit. Thee are benign and not a problem. However, if you speak with your physician it can usually be removed even in the office. Please make sure that you talk this over with your physician to make sure it is a cyst and nothing more.

Usually granulomas: Calcifications seen on chest chest xray are common - often old granulomas, or lymph nodes that were involved in an infection long in the past, that have become calcified over time. Commonly this is from minor histoplasmosis infections. Other causes can be certain tumors of the pleura with calcification of the lining of the lung, or TB with calcifications seen at the apex of the lung.
