Immune response.: A calcified granuloma is a type of inflammation.     Some lung infections (like fungal infections) will trigger a response in the body in which the person's immune system surrounds the invading organisms with specific cells that form discrete clusters in attempt to wall the organism off from the host tissue.  Over time, these can calcify.  Non-infectious foreign material can also cause granulomas.

Old inflammation.: A granuloma is a type of inflammation.  Granulomas can arise in response to some infections and to other inflammatory processes.  This process is generally not associated with malignancy.  When described as 'calcified', (like in an xray or ct scan), the reader of the study is generally indicated that the process is mineralized and is usually of long standing.

Features: A granulomatous lesion narrows the differential of a lung opacification. If there is mediastinal adenopathy, a node may be biopsied. TB screening test should be performed. If calcified, the lesion may indicate a resolved infection or process. Since the size is stable, this lessens the concern for a fast growing tumor or infection that is not controlled. Old infection: would be the most common explanation, but there are some other illnesses that could cause this and be more worrisome.  You need to ask the physician who ordered the x-ray what s/he was worried about, and what is the cause for these findings.  Good luck!

No quick cure: For this.  If it is calcified, it means that it has been there already for some time.  It is most likely old infection, such as tuberculosis, so make sure you get checked out for TB and treated if necessary.  Other infection or damage can cause it too.  You need to see a doctor in any event.

TB: The most likely cause would be healed tuberculosis in which case you should have a positive TB skin test or blood test such as quantiferon TB gold test.  If one of these is positive at your age wou would need treatment for latent tuberculosis.
Some fungal infections can also cause calcified granulomata in the lungs.

See below: We usually see pleural calcifications with asbestos exposure.  Calcified nodules are usually due to being exposed to something like histoplasmosis.

Calcified: A calcified nodule is frequently benign. If it is the only abnormality on scan, commonly recommended is another scan 3-6 months later to be certain it's not growing. If no growth in 3-6 months, another scan at 1 year might be suggested.

Old infection: When there is a small infection in the lungs the body stops it by walling it off with calcium. It's important to know what the original infection was since some kinds can reactivate. So it is a good idea to see a doctor that can diagnose the condition. You should be fit for work regardless.
