ct scan showed 8mmx5mm brain calcification in left cortex. said its benign, they also said could be 2 possible conditions. 1: calcified cavarnoma or 2. longstanding dystrophic cortical calcification. i read one can cause haemorrhage and 1 dementia??

: Presumably you didn't just wander into a CT center and made an impulse purchase. A doctor ordered this for a reason. What was the reason? The CT scan isn't the patient; you are. The doctor who ordered it is ethically obligated to explain the results to you in terms you can understand, or if (s)he can't, to send you to someone who can.

Not sensitive: Ct is insensitive and nonspecific for dementia. Mri and pet are better, but clinical evaluation by a neurologist is most important.

Yes: Generally brain imaging will show atrophy/shrinking of the brain. Imaging may also help to rule in or out other causes.

Impossible to tell: without reviewing the images, but in general, the CT appearance of calcification is more specific than the US appearance, so it is unlikely that there is hepatic calcification. No: most likely you like in an area where certain conditions will produce the body to make granulomas which calcify. Old injury also can cause a calcium deposit. Unless there is another reason for the CT, shouldn't be a problem

are usually seen in a linear pattern and can occur anywhere within cranium.

It usually means that area was injured in some way and the bodies response was to lay down this dense material. It is not a favorable finding, but the location and amount may point to a specific cause.
