8-12 weeks: It depend on the fracture and how sever it is. And the methods of treatment. Some time they have to apply special halo from the out side to keep the fracture stable.

Broken neck: Bones take at least 6 weeks to heal.  Given your age, they are probably healed by now.  Typically your doctor will now take an X-ray to check, and if the X-ray looks fine will remove the brace.

i had neck injury fractured c1, c2 and occipital in a roll over car accident not wearing seat belt in august 2021 and had posterior cervical fusion on 12/31/21 and now have more pain than prior to the fusion. do they ever remove the hardware?

: Only if the fracture is stable.  Go back to the original surgeon and get some images to ensure other levels are not involved.  The hardware can come out if the fracture is healed and doesn’t need to be stabilized any longer.  Good luck and feel better.

Interesting...: Did you have any trauma to cause the fracture?  Healing depends on your age, other medical problems, and degree of displacement with the fractures and whether or not you were immobilized (e.g. Collar etc.) and bone quality. Many fractures usually heal within 3 months if only minimally displaced and immobilized.  Key things to know is whether you are symptomatic (pain, neuro deficit) or unstable.

can an 85 yr old heal from a jefferson burst fracture of c1, with midline anterior arch fracture and fractures of the posterior arch at the levels/course of vertebral arteries. fracture base of the dens, with at least 6 mm of anterior separation?

: The pace of healing is clearly  age dependent, and  fracture stabilization is very slow indeed above age 80 yrs.  Would discuss this  with an orthopedic surgeon and check out various options for healing, such as bone stimulation, ongoing need for cervical bracing, surgical interventions, etc.

Possible: You re-fracture recently healed fracture or old healed fracture if you apply enough force on it  to break the bone. Thank you.

Fracture: Yes it is certainly possible to re-fracture a bone especially is there is another trauma or incident that causes injury. If this is the case an x-ray is warranted. Best of luck!
