is it unusual for someone that is being treated for c-diff not to be able to eat certain foods?  should i be on a certain diet?

Accepted Answer

Yes and no: You are likely being treated with Flagyl (metronidazole).  For that, you should not drink anything with alcohol in it, including cough medications, while you are taking it.

After you are done with treatment and cleared of the c-difficile, you should be able to eat anything you want.

what is the best diet & probiotic to build my resistance to my c-diff coming back now that i am recovering?

Accepted Answer

: Probiotics containing Saccharomyces boulardii and Lactobacillus casei have been the most studied and appear to be effective. However, products are not standardized and there is enormous variation one to another. More is not necessarily better.

diagnosed w/ c-diff 10 12/19/22.. given 10 days of vancomycin. added florastor probiotic. how do i know when i am better & can start adding back more foods to my diet? do i keep taking florastor daily or take a different probiotic for my gut health?

: If you are no longer having diarrhea, you can resume your usual diet. Probiotics are generally not useful.

er sat. am, explosive diarrhea, abdominal bloating, pain&gas. stool sample to lab today, mon. lab results in 48hrs for c diff possible. what is the best diet to get under control? possibly cefdinir caused this? use imodium or not?

: The biggest problem in a person with explosive diarrhea is keeping hydrated and maintaining electrolyte levels. Make sure you are drinking 2.5 liters of water/electrolytes daily to maintain hydration. Once the lab test comes back a specific treatment will be prescribed by your DR. Eat a limited diet consisting of only Rice/crackers/dry toast, bananas, apples- no fatty foods, no high fiber foods.

Muscle mass: Given equal dietary restrictions a person who burns more calories will lose more weight.  Men tend to have more muscle mass, which will consume more calories with exercise.  More calories burned each day leads to faster weight loss.

i'm 2 days post op from a total thyrodidectomy...are there any diet restrictions or things i should avoid eating ?

Not really: Most surgeons would say you can eat anything you feel like eating. Some patients feel more comfortable eating soft foods and liquids for a few days due to discomfort with swallowing, but anything is really ok if it feels ok. The sutures are really not near the esophagus or swallowing mechanism, so whatever sounds good and is healthy is fine. Good wishes:)

Yes: Low salt diet, no alcohol, favor fresh fruit & veggies, avoid raw seafood.

after diet restriction and brisk 1hr walk everyday  it reached to 6.7%. please suggest me what should i do ?

Accepted Answer

7.8 to 6.7: Do nothing more than you are doing for now. The change in A1c was good and may yet get lower if you continue to take care of your diet and exercise.
At 50, don't overdo exercise.

Yes: Short term yes but long term you need a more comprehensive diet.
