Exam recommended: Burning chest discomfort may be.due to an inflamed esophagus but to be sure, I recommend that your physician examine you. If it's felt to be esophagitis, you will be instructed to follow a bland diet, abstain from smoking, alcohol and caffeine, use an antacid maalox or gelusil and,if you can take it, daily prilosec will be prescribed.

Gastrointestinal: Your symptoms are typical of acid reflux/esophagitus and I see you have a strong history of this. If you have failed medical therapy, discuss Nissen Fundoplication with your gastroenterologist.

Indirectly: The question is, why do you have pancreatitis? Your profile states that you don't drink alcohol. The 2nd most common cause is gall stones. Gall bladder disease can cause chest pain (atypically) that mimics heart burn and may be cause. The location suggests esophageal origin. Further eval is indicated.

i am a 26 year old female. i have been experiencing burning chest pain in the center of my chest for 24 hours. antacids have not helped. advice?

Time to see your doc: Chest pain described as burning that is not relieved with antiacids needs medical attention.  Otc meds such as prevecid, tums, prilosec, zantac can be tried, but if it continues, you may have something else, like a stricture or severe peptic ulcer or bleeding ulcer.   You will need carafate (sucralfate) and other prescription meds.  You may need a scope to verify the problem.  You may need a test for h.Pylori.

Your chest pain: You need to get an ekg and a chest xray. Perhaps other workup as your dr reccomends.

Difficult: Chest pain can be due to your heart, lungs, muscle, tendons, bone. If you have indeed had a work up to rule out your heart and lungs this is reassuring. If however these are new symptoms or persistent , unrelenting causing pain and difficulty breathing ultimately you need to be seen again at an Emergency Room. Good luck

Need for examination: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without taking more history, physical examination and may be imaging studies. How much do you weigh? If you are overweight, the first thing to do would be to lose weight. It would be prudent to see your doctor for an evaluation.

cold has hung on for a couple of weeks,now includes burning chest pain. constant barking cough. no fever. should i wait it out or see a doctor?

Time to see Doc: A  cold that is getting worse, or lasts longer than a week needs to be checked out.  Sometimes when a person is suffering from a viral infection a secondary germ moves in too &amp; that could be bacterial. An antibiotic can help then.  Also stop whatever over the counter meds you are taking, since they are not helping, and sometimes make things worse. Stop using fragrances, avoid smoke, aerosols.too.
