Bulges: Discs naturally bulge as we age.  Unless there is evidence on MRI and on exam that the disc is actually pushing on some other structure (typically a nerve) then the disc bulge is highly unlikely to be the cause of back pain.  Look for other causes (muscles,  joints,  etc.) as for getting worse with menses,  has your doctor considered endometriosis?

First, a bulging : Disc is a fairly normal finding. Pt & an esi are only parts of treatment.  Treatment depends on correctly diagnosing the cause of pain.  If your pain is primarily in your back, an esi is unlikely to help & if sciatic in nature, it works 50% of the time.  Lifestyle factors play a role like smoking, being overweight and not exercising regularly.  Medication, time, activity modification play a role.

It means that : the disc between the 5th lumbar &amp; 1st sacral vertebrae has developed a weak spot that allows the soft pulpy inside to bulge out. The rest has to do with the places where vertebrae connect. HEADS UP: Words really aren't enough here. ASK to review the images with the doc. You deserve an explanation in terms you understand. BUT, you also owe it to yourself to do your homework. Read up about it first.

No. Bed rest more : Than 2 days is of no help and may delay recovery which should be with guided exercise like PT and use of medication as needed to help symptoms based on medical hx with need to make sure you exercise, stay trim and avoid tobacco.

Unlikely: Nerve root most commonly compressed by a disc at l5-s1 is the s1 nerve root, less commonly the l5.  Compression of either nerve root would cause pain down the leg, not typically the genitals.
