NO: I wouldn't put any topical steroids on them, especially something as strong as betamethasone. You should call her dermatologist and try mixing some vitamin e with any of her hypoallergenic lotions and applying that to her face twice daily. Cerave sa or amlactin might be a good choice to break down any top crust and vit e can help in healing.

how long will it take for a bright red, flat bug bite to heal?

Depends on several: things:  the type of bug, a person's allergy response, and whether it gets infected.  Some will resolve in a few hours, while some individuals have delayed hypersensitivity reaction and may get marked swelling and redness after 1-2 days.  Scratching and infection will prolong healing.  Cold compresses and antihistamines orally work best if itchy.

Yes: Almost all the kids i see with MRSA lesions are brought in by a parent who suspects an insect or spider bite. It is worth getting that checked as he may need antibiotics.

We don't either: Most bug bites, if it is one, do not leave any diagnostic clues that would allow us to know what it is.Sometimes they form patterns that allow us to speculate, but most look about the same.

Have it evaluated.: It is possible that there might be a small smoldering infection in the center of that lesion. Either way if it will not go away then see your dr. As some skin cancers may present that way and can be treated easily through excision. Have it evaluated.
