Cast or splint: For the most part, buckle fractures are minimally displaced fractures that can be treated conservatively (e.g. Non-surgically). Casting or splinting is the usual approach for these injuries.

Minor fracture: Most don't realize it but these bones are tubular. With trauma, the bone can dent like a beer can. They can hurt but   don't cause instability like a traditional fx. The dent or buckle heals without weakening the bone.

Splint may be fine: A splint may be fine, depending upon time from injury and x-ray  status. If you are already more than a couple weeks out from injury, a splint is likely fine, as long as it adequately protects your injured bone from further harm during the full 6 weeks of healing usually required for such a fracture.

what is the standard treatment for a toddler with a buckle fracture of the 5th metatarsal?  fracture is on the end closest to the ankle.

Varies: with the degree of buckling and the proximity to the growth plate.  There are two types of buckle fractures, one involved just a single segment of the bony cortex and buckles on one side.  Another involves the entire circumference or two sides and buckles in in more than one location.  There are differing degrees of risk to the growth plate with each with continued mobility. If there is not obvious compromise of the growth plate, treatment can be a short leg walking cast for 3 weeks.  Any complications involving the growth plate may require more aggressive treatment including surgical.

my 9 year-old has a wrist buckle fracture. the dr. put her in a cast  5" past  the elbow.  is that a bit much? can we put her in a wrist splint?

Doc know best: Trust experience of doctor who has seen the fracture. Pediatric fracture s heal fast and at some point doc may switch to a wrist splint.

Ps a kid can easily take a splint off whereas a cast takes some undoing  ;-).

Injury as well as age,  general health,  bone quality  and many other factors a hand surgeon or orthopedic surgeon trains for years and years and continues to read research and articles regarding the methods needed  , using all thus they decide splint, cast, surgery etc.

Depends: It depends on where the fracture is, how many pieces it is in, associated injuries and the type of treatment.

Wrist drop: This must have been quite a fracture. What was the treatment at the time of the fracture? Did you have surgery or not? Yes definitely get the nerve checked and repaired if possible - its already been 4 months.

mri results show three torn ligaments in wrist with possible hamate fracture. injury was 5 weeks ago, what is the treatment ?

Depends: Must have been a serious injury to cause that much damage.  Not all ligament tears need surgery, but if needed ligament repairs should be done early rather than late.  Sounds like you should see a hand surgeon to get things checked out. Maybe even a second opinion.  Ligament repair surgery of the wrist is quite involved with a minimum of 3-4 month recovery.
