Knee ; ankle injury: Start with rest, ice, elevation, mild compression. If not better, see orthopedic surgeon ; get x-rays.

Bruise: spontaneous bruising is very common and is not usually related to blood clots. It should disappear but if you get more you should let your doctor have a look at them

Leaker.: Bruising is a phenomena associated with blood leaking from blood vessels and pooling in the tissue. Although bruising is usually associated with trauma, Certain medications and blood problems ca also be responsible. Since your bruises are unexplained, I suggest you consult with a primary care specialist for evaluation.

Most likely Osgood-: Schlater disease, the syndrome may develop without trauma or other apparent cause; however, some studies report up to 50% of patients relate a history of precipitating trauma.

what would be the reasons a bumpy, round, discoloured in the middle bruise would appear on the shin other than trauma?

Accepted Answer

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests.Tick bite is one possibility. A bleeding disorder is another. A reaction to an insect bite could produce such an appearance.  It would be prudent to see a doctor. Wish you good health!

Mark: The discoloration is caused by hemosiderosis. Which is a condition where Iron gets deposited in the tissue.  There are topical creams that can help, but this tends to be cosmetic. Lazer  therapy has shown to benefit.

Periosteum?: There is very little protective fat over the shin. The bone has a film called periosteum which is quite sensitive. This may be why you still have pain. However, when in doubt obtain medical evaluation.

Natural Process: With injury to our tissues, inflammation (red, hot, swelling, tenderness) occurs.  There is leakage of blood from damaged capillaries and veins which collects under the skin and causes the purple blue coloring we call a bruise.  Over time, damaged tissues heal and blood collections are reabsorbed slowly causing the wide array of colors in the area.  Protect the area to promote fastest healing.

my lo bruises easily. she has bruises on both shins and they have not gone away. is this something to be concerned about?

Evaluation: You need to be evaluated by hematology and  have blood test ,CBC PT , and PTT to find the cause and to be treated.
