Post Op Ext Symptoms: Good afternoon;
Extraction may have required removal of bone and gingival tissue directly around extraction site which would cause the area to be quite tender for a prolonged period of time. Monitor the degree of tenderness on daily basis; would expect diminished soreness in subsequent days. Temporarily, a benzocaine gel like Zilactin-B may help. If not consult with DDS.

Questions: Not unusual.  May take months to resolve.  To be sure, make an appointment with the Surgeon who removed the tooth for a post-surgical examination.  Take along a written list of all your questions.  That way the Surgeon can address all your concerns.

Tooth extraction: Hi Robin, When was the extraction? For about 4-6 days it is normal to have the swelling depending on how bad it was before the extraction. It will feel swollen, bruised and cause spasms of the masseter muscle prevention mouth opening. Pain accompanies inflammation that is secondary to the extraction and possibly the infection that required it. Please see your dentist if this persists beyond 6 days

Edge of the extracti: Most likely it is the edge of the extraction siteand the gingiva has been lacerated exposing the bone itself.  Most times it heals but sometimes it has to be smoothed down surgically.  It is a common thing to happen.

Sounds normal: Seems normal postoperatively tissue may be tender for 2-4 wks continue to monitor and return if conditions turn worse

Irrelevant: Excessive use of alcohol, smoking or infection may slow healing, but not a nerve.

Prolonged numbness: (paresthesia) is a typical sign that there might be an underlying problem.   Proper x-rays (panoramic) or a cbct should be taken by the treating dentist to evaluate prior to surgery.

Paraesthesis: I've seen a number of patients who presented with paresthesia. Some never had their symptoms reversed, others partially felt the lip and tissue around her Mandibular teeth and some notice the paresthesia disappearing altogether.

took 10mg temazepam before tooth extraction to calm nerves. dentist prescribed panadeine forte for pain. will i be okay to take this?

Only: The only one who knows your medical and dental histories and your physiology is your Dentist.  If your Dentist was concerned he/she would not have prescribed these medications.  You trust your Dentist to do surgery, trust him/her to prescribe the appropriate medications.
