Pain by rib: It sounds like an upper gastrointestinal or gall bladder problem. I couldn't be sure without an exam and tests so see your Doc.

i got tackled by a stray dog. i hit the ground hard. for the last two days i've had a pain in my floating rib area. could a rib be fractured?

Possibly: It could be, but also could just be bruised. If you are having significant pain go in and get it checked out by your doctor.

What floating rib: we do not have a floating rib unless you broke one and become floated or i am misunderstanding what you mean by floating
if you mean your lower rib it is common problem in women because of the kind of bra they ware trhat put pressure on the ribs and cause inflammation 
it could be what we call costochondritis
take ibuprofen ,apply heat,and ware non wired bra.

History and exam: Everyone generally has at least one floating ribs some have a couple on each side though usually the lower ribs. They can get irritated on your hip or on the ledge of a couch when you're leaning or a variety of other things. They are slow to heal. Sometimes you can feel them slip underneath another rib. That is uncomfortable. There's a lot of carlatun these ribs which is slow to heal. Even chest x-rays are not very helpful. Sometimes  diagnostic nerve block can define things.

Rib pain: Given your age and the information you've left, I don't think it is cardiac. However, since you are having fatigue from exertion I would contact your doctor tomorrow to be seen. However, I would go to the nearest ED/urgent care center if you are having fevers, chills or shortness of breath even walking short distances.

Depends: Where
when
how many?
Posterior rib fractures even with flail portion can be pretty stable and protected.
Anterior 2-4 rib segments are quit mobile and additional trauma could puncture lung or underlying tissue.
If 2 months or so, probably stable enough to work.
Generally if it hurts stop.

Very unlikely: A male of your age should have no worries about osteopenia. Only if you have certain hormonal diseases or on corticosteroids for some reason should u be concerned. Rib fxs.Come w / the territory of boxing... A bone densitometry can be done to ' measure' bone density ( of the hips/ lumbar spine)...

Concern: If this is a true concern, the definitive test is to get an XRAY or more definitive test would be a CT. Recommend close follow up with your primary care provider or an urgent care that dose X-Rays.
