Soft stools: The color of the stool doesnt matter. It sounds like you have a viral infection, lactose intolerance or a reaction to something you ate. My best advice is to avoid all dairy products for 3-5 days and limit your diet to Bananas, rice, fresh apples, tea, dry toast and yogurt ( vanilla or lemon). The yogurt replenishes the good bacteria in yuur bowel.

Stool color: Stool that appears dark can be caused by a number of possibilities. Blood, drug intake, iron, certain food types, food coloring, are only a few of the possible causes. Blood in stool may be suspect for cancer but needs lab testing in order to confirm.

How is your diet?: Have you been taking NSAIDs (aspirin, Ibuprofen etc.) if not, do you feel weak, lethargic, weight loss or not, hemorrhoids, any significan family history?.  I recommend visiting your primary doctor for evaluation of blood in stool, if its positive, have them pursue  an upper and lower endoscopy

Need exam: Blood and mucous in stool always means something is going on.  With cramps, it is a bit more dangerous.  You need the stool to be examined, and more importantly you need your colon to be examined.  Good luck!

Depends on details: A primary care doctor can check to see why some stools are very light colored. He'll want to know the circumstances around the light colored stools, such as whether or not it is related to rapid transit of poop through the bowels, or related to certain foods. Keeping a diary of symptoms will help. If worried about the liver and gall bladder, the doctor may order an ultrasound scan and blood tests.

is dark brown stool ok? i went to the doctor 5 weeks ago and they did a rectal blood test and blood tests and everything was normal. im convinced i have cancer! my stool is formed and this is my only symptom. i eat a lot of blueberries if that helps?

: Dark brown is a common color and not to be worried about.  Your stool seems normal in all respects.  You should look up the symptoms of intestinal cancer on the internet and see if you qualify.  My guess is that you have no problem.
