Call your physician: If a HPT is negative 7-12 days after missed period likely not pregnant. This would usually eliminate an ectopic(tubal)pregnancy or miscarriage as the cause for your symptoms. There are a number of other causes for abnormal bleeding or missed period including hormonal changes due to stress,exercise or weight loss. If the pain or bleeding increases go to ER to be sure as false (-) HPT
is possible.

Spotting : Irregular spotting  is one of the most common problems Obgyns treat. If this is one time problem it usually resolves on its own. If this is a recurring problem you should be evaluated. Infections &amp;  hormonal changes can cause spotting. If there is a concern for pregnancy then do  a home pregnancy test .  There are many options available to help regulate the menstrual cycle. Schedule a visit.

Sounds normal : It sounds like you are still having regular cyclic monthly periods. This would be normal. Brown just means old blood. It turns brown when it has been sitting at the back of the vagina. Birth control would help regulate your cycles but if you are trying to conceive you may want to hold off for now.

Although the risk of pregnancy is low, it can still occur at 45.  If the brown discharge continues, get a serum HCG test and see your healthcare provider for advice and possible other testing.

Many possibilities: A lot of things can cause irregular bleeding, so a miscarriage is only one possible explanation.  If you never had a positive pregnancy test you cannot make the assumption that you were pregnant simply because of an unusual bleeding pattern.
