3 1/2 weeks ago broke 4th metatarsal nondisplaced. in walking boot. yesterday walked a lot & today top of foot is sore. could i have displaced the fractured bone by wearing the walking boot too long?

Aggravated injury: You may have aggravated old injury . Give it some rest , it should get better in few days. It takes 4-6 weeks for non displaced fractures to heal, it takes 10 weeks to feel normal , provided you give rest.

stretched nerve to big toe in '92 ankle fracture. about 15 yrs later, bone spur under big toe ball of ft . top of foot burns now. did nerve "wake up"?

Probably arthritis: You could have arthritic changes in the joint of your big toe. This can irritate the nerve. This can be treated by an orthopedic surgeon.

top of foot pain in bone, center of top of the foot.  no impact/trauma. the pain is very mild and i can exercise thought it.  i am very active-run, play basketball on hard courts (concrete), etc.  im 46.  is this possibly some stress fracture?

Pain: if you can still walk on this it's unlikely to be a stress fracture. Common reasons for foot pain would be an Extensor Tendonitis perhaps some degree of neuritis of the nerve of the top of your foot.

A knot on the top of a foot is frequently seen in feet that are not broken.

i had a heavy piece of metal hit my foot 3 weeks ago. the top of my foot is tight, with a large bump and hurts. im wondering if i have a broken bone if it's worth to go to a med clinic for care as i don't have heath insurance?

Yes, but.....: A painful bump from trauma is usually a good reason to get checked by your doctor or urgent care. However, a presumed fracture that is 3 weeks old has likely "partially" healed. Nonetheless, best to have it checked as a non-union of a fracture could be occurring. Btw-whether one has insurance or not does not play a role in what is best for health.

While : While it may be expected to have some discomfort, there are some types of pain that may signify something amiss. Burning or electrical type pain is often described as "nerve pain", meaning there has been something that has occurred to a nerve in the area in question. Sensation to the top of the foot is from the superficial and deep peroneal nerves. The superficial peroneal nerve may have been stretched at the time of the original injury, compressed by dressings or injured a the time of surgery (you didn't mention whether she had had a surgery for the fracture. It may be specfic to this nerve or may come to encompass the entire foot/ankle in what some doctors call a complex regional pain syndrome. Ask your doctor about this. There are some medications that have been shown to help this sort of pain. A pain relief doctor (a subspecialty of anesthesia) may be consulted as well.

After six to eight weeks the symptoms get better. However an x-ray is most helpful, shows the foot fracture, determines care and is a baseline for proper healing. Don't ignore your feet.

Without x-rays?: Without imaging studies, determining whether there is a broken bone is not easy. When there is crunching with excruciating pain an swelling or obvious deformity (yuck!), it can be obvious. Otherwise, an orthopedist can often determine fractures with palpation (pushing around), or with a tuning fork (though not many of us carry one around with us!).
