Could be permanent: Unless properly splinted, casted, or taped by an expert, there could be permanent deformity. Even if "perfectly" aligned, there can be callous formation causing swelling on the bony fracture heal line. If there is angulation or visible deformity at present, see a plastic surgical or orthopedic specialist in hand surgery and get the correct x-ray diagnosis of problem or not! good luck!

Finger dislocations: Can be present with or without a fracture. A dislocation  may be reducible and very stable, not reducible and need surgery to put back or once put back in place be unstable. These are all assessments made by the treating porvider and used to asses needs for follow up care. Often when there is no obvious fracture we assume that itll be 'ok" but there can be a need for  prolonged care for these.

Depends: On how bad a  fracture or break in the digit and on any damaged soft tissue. There are instances where the affected digit will always remain slightly swollen or larger in appearance than the same digit on the opposite limb.

knee injury, motorcycle accident. bent backward, possible dislocation, leg straightened, popped back in. motion tested ok. xray no broken bone, unremarkable soft tissue. 6 days later still aching/pain, can't move on own, how long to heal? mri need?

: It is still early, you should still wear knee immobilization device and use a crutch at this time. It takes at least another week or more for the symptoms to improve significantly. If knee's range of motion is still limited after a couple months, MRI should be considered by then.

my daughter recently just received a diagnosis that she had a small fracture in the joint of tip of her pinky finger and that there was a small flake of bone floating. fracture aside, what happens to the floating bone if just left on its own?

: If left untreated, a floating bone can cause pain, inflammation, and joint stiffness. The bone can also potentially damage surrounding tissues and lead to the development of osteoarthritis. In some cases, surgery may be necessary to remove the floating bone and prevent further complications.

Swelling: After a hand fracture it is common to have swelling in your fingers. This may be the cause of your symptoms. Make sure you are elevating the hand. Talk to your doctor if your are experiencing problems.

Finger fracture: if nondisplaced and not rotated or angulated can be splinted until non tender typically abou t three weeks and then begun on protected range of motion. treatment varies by age, type of fracture and of course displacement and rotation
