OUCH!: Depends on the extent of injury and whether or not you've fractured the underlying bone (phalynx). Keep it elevated as much as possible. If it's throbbing, you may need to see your family doctor for pain medication to tide you over. An x-ray would be very helpful! Good luck, mi amigo!

Cervical radic.: Without knowing more information, this sounds like a classic C6 radiculopathy.  In other words, a pinching of the 6th cervical nerve in the neck that provides the skin sensation to the thumb.

It could also be referred pain from a trigger point.

Go see a spine specialist in your area.

my right thumb has been hurting.  it locks down a little in the morning. what is causing it and what can i do about it?

Trigger thumb: Trigger thumb, like trigger finger is caused by scarring in the flexor tendon sheaths of the hand. You can massage this frequently throughout the day, use deep hearing via a paraffin bath, or therapeutically with red laser, ultrasound, or diathermy. If these conservative treatments fail, injections in the sheath can be performed.

how can i tell if my thumb is broken? the swelling has not gone down even after ice. the color has gotten worse. it also hurts to move it at all.

Broken thumb.: If you think you thumb may be broken, and if your conservative measures have not helped, then you really need an X-ray of the thumb to make sure it's not broken.

i bumped my thumb a week ago from trying to move a piece of furniture and it still hurts slightly when stretching it out, though the amount of pain has been diminishing. just now stretched it up and down and it feels much better. any worries?

: Typically that is consistent with tight muscles/tendons/ligaments post being initially injured with the bump and now tightening up when not using it. As long as the thumb functions completely normal after it is stretched out, then likely not a problem to worry about. It can take often weeks to not have periods of tightness however.

Nail line: Usually it is a normal variant. Sometimes a mole or even a rare melanoma skin cancer can look like a black line in the nail. You should have a dermatogist evaluate the nail.

Unusual: This could be hyperpigmentation that occurs after a rash or injury could also be some kind of stain  in the skin from a chemical compound. Rarely this could be a melanoma type skin cancer.For diagnosis and treatment see a primary care physician version. Really can't tell what it is without seeing it
