does being overweight or having large breasts make it harder to breastfeed?

Accepted Answer

No: Breastfeeding should not be affected by large breasts. However, initially after delivery it may take some time for the newborn to adjust and latch onto the breast and it may take some time for the milk to start coming on a regular basis. Remember, breast milk is the best choice for you and your baby!

Accepted Answer

Yes: While your body is continuing to act as the main food source for your baby, expect your breasts to remain increased in size. They will reduce in size once you have stopped the breastfeeding process.

my baby is a week old and i am breastfeeding her but my right breast seems to be slightly bigger than my left breast. my right breast is firm and large while my left breast is small and not firm at all. i am very concerned and do not know what to do.

Accepted Answer

Your : Your right breast is producing more milk than the left. A few things you can try are to start feeding the baby on the left side first. Use a breast pump on the left side after breastfeeding. Do this at least three times a day. If these things do not help, make contact with a lactation consultant. They are usually available through the hospital where you gave birth. Also consider joining a lactation/breastfeeding support group.

Changes: Chances are they will likely be somewhere in between.  Breasts change quite a bit for many women with the first pregnancy and the size and shape varies after pregnancy and/or breast feeding.

why do my left side breast still big, droops and flat after having a baby and it has a slight pain i dont breast feed i just breast pump.

Change in shape: It is normal for your breasts to change in size and shape with and after breastfeeding.  The slight pain could be a couple of things.   As your milk " lets down" just before the milk begins to flow, you may be aware of a slight ACHE as the muscles around the milk ducts contract to get the milk going.  Congratulations for breastfeeding your baby!  He will be SO healthy!

is it ok to give my 2 year old breast milk since i just birthed his brother a week ago? my son is 2 years and 2 months old and now that he is a big brother he wants to have what his brother is having when i breast feed him. i tried very hard to breast fee

There : There is nothing unhealthy about your breast milk for your 2 yr. Old. I would recommend that you offer it in a cup though, as there is no reason to encourage your toddler to believe he should be treated the same as a newborn. Some regression in behavior is common when a new baby arrives, but it should not be encouraged. Instead shower your 2 yr. Old with praise for being the very important "big brother.".

Sore breasts: Apply cold compresses to your breasts and your milk production will cease or you can ask your obstetricuan for medicatio.

how long does a breast infection take to completely fade. i was diagnosed towards the end of breastfeeding. the infection was large initially.

It depends: Breast feeding moms can developed mastitis from plugged milk duct. This can be treated with warm compresses and anti-inflammatory. However if it persists/developes abscess,antibiotics is usually prescribed. I am not sure exactly what you mean by breast infection. Call your doctor or present for in office physical to be checked out. There are cases of pregnancy associated breast cancer.

Stay the course: There is not much of anything that can be done except stay the course.  Months after you have stopped and your breasts have stabilized, autologous fat grafting is great for restoration of volume and form.
