Because of this, contact wearers are very sensitive to dryness of the eyes as the lens will become uncomfortable, if the eye is a little dry.  The contact does not cause the dryness, but is a sensitive early warning.  If you are starting to have some symptoms see your ophthalmologist who can recommend more advanced lenses.

Dry eyes are chronic with ups and downs depending upon many factors.

Since the tear filmis made up of 3 layers, dry eyes can be specifically treated today. Most artificial tears are safe for your eyes but you must consult your eye doctir for drops that are specific to your condition.

No harm: Lutein is suggested to improve macular health.  There is no evidence of its effectiveness in dry eyes although no harm is done by using it.  Consider using flax seed oil as a useful supplement for dry eyes.

Increase tears: Tears can be increased by adding artificial tears, slowing drainage by placing plugs in tear drainage ducts or by using medications to improve function of glands that produce tear components (restasis).  Systemic medications should be reviewed and substituted if possible alot of the make dry eye worse.  Most common are antihistamines, diuretics and beta blockers.  Other meds also ask your dr.
