Brain tumor: Tumors in the back part of the brain or posterior fossa can put downward pressure on the spinal cord and irritate the nerves in the neck. Muscle spasm can occur if there is erosion of the skull base and the occipital condyles. Blockage of cerebrospinal fluid as it flows from the brain to the spinal cord will cause neck pain.

Usually: certain type of tumors can't be well visualized on CT and requires MRI, such as meningiomas, but neck pain is rarely cause of tumor in the brain.  tumors can occur in the spinal cord, including the neck spinal cord, but neck pain is usually due to problems with the neck itself, such as disc or arthritis.

Cluster of symptoms: Hard to say with a general cluster of symptoms what may be happening, but if they are significant they should be evaluated. Conditions such as brain tumor are quite rare and ct/mri scans may be ordered by a physician after a thorough history and exam. Don't ignore your symptoms, but be cautious about jumping to the most severe conclusion without more of a work-up. Hope this helps!

Sinusitis: Focal facial pain over eyebrow could be a sinus infection/inflammation. As the body responds, lymph nodes at neck can become inflammed and cause head and neck pain as well as an overall feeling of fatigue and low fever. Try a nasal saline wash followed by an oral decongestant/spray decongestant. Use Acetaminophen for pain.

ct scans good for catching brain tumors? i did a ct scan several months ago because i was having head and neck pain.  the ct scan turned out to be normal, but the head and neck pain have returned.  i was wondering what the odds are that the ct scan missed

Based : Based on the symptoms you are describing, it is extremely unlikely that the previous ct scan missed a brain tumor. Occasionally a ct scan can miss a brain tumor if it is very small.

However, there are dozens of possible causes of head and neck pain, and it is unusual for a brain tumor to only cause head and neck pain without other signs or symptoms. Now, add to that the fact that you already had a ct of the head which showed no tumor.  I would not worry about a brain tumor unless additional symptoms develop such as seizure, paralysis, loss of feeling in the extremities, vision loss, etc.

Neck or brain: Likely not, but not impossible.  More likely coming from your neck and involving arterial supply to the eye (carotid artery)  or occipital lobe of the brain (vertebral artery).  Was the MRI ordered of the brain or the cervical spine (neck)?  Given that the headache is mild and the neck having frank pain, I would look at the neck first.

Not likely a tumor: A brain tumor is pretty far down the list of possibilities. I think you have pinpointed the most likely cause yourself: muscle tension. Neck, shoulder, temple, jaw muscle tightness and pain create anxiety which causes more tightness which causes more pain which ...
   I don't discourage you from seeing your primary care physician but I think you can worry less about a brain tumor. Feel better!
