i have sort of brain glitches where i'll be fine one minute and the next i feel disconnected. like i'm in a dream. it only lasts 20 secs or so. ideas?

Several possibiities: Most of us have "brain glitches" from time to time.  In older folks they're known euphemistically as "senior moments."  But anyone at any age can have brief moments during which the mind seems to go into "la la land."  Maybe we're distracted or overwhelmed or just bored and start to day dream.  Although they're rarely a result of a medical condition, if you're concerned,  talk with your doctor.

Extremely uncommon: I think you may need some psychiatric counseling if you are feeling that way.

I'm not sure: I don't think it's your brain that you feel doing that so much as it is your head or scalp doing that and even if I'm right I still don't know why it is happening. You need to be examined by your doctor who may wish to send you to a neurologist for further evaluation.

Talk to your doctor: Pain in your head can be caused by lots of things like migraines, pinched or inflamed nerves, injuries, tumors and muscle tension. But it's not normal so see somebody.

Yes: Yes, the mind is a very powerful thing. Think of stress and how you feel under pressure. However, i would also posit that if you're feeling sick, then you're not healthy or well. Go see your family doc for his/her opinion and to be sure that you're truly well. Good luck!

Strange feelings...: Odd sensations of water flowing can be due to irritation or other effects on nerves and/or on the spinal cord. A primary care doctor can check, and may refer to a neurologist or a physiatrist (physical medicine / rehabilitation doctor) for more evaluation. The doctors will check to see where (which nerves) might be the source of the sensations.

Age old question: What's the secret? You ask difficult questions. No easy answer. But here are a couple of suggestions. It is said that 2 medium sized apples 30-60 min. before a meal can help reduce appetite by as much as 30% due to the presence of PECTIN in the SKIN OF THE APPLE which tends to turn ON a place in the brain called the SATIETY CENTER. Also, REMOVE 1/3 the amount of food from a plate you make to eat.

The cause?: Your sensations are completely subjective. A boiled brain is no more alive than a boiled egg. Brains don’t boil (as long as the owner is still using it). Sounds like you need to find some way to manage stress and nervous tension. There’s nothing exotic or complicated about this.

Primary doctor first: A person with such symptoms can see her primary care doctor first (Internal Medicine or Family Medicine). The primary care doctor can do a general examination to see what might be the symptoms and the cause. Sometimes a referral to a neurologist or a psychiatrist can help. A patient should write down her symptoms (when and how they began, etc...) and take them in-person to her primary care doctor.
