will an oral device prevent my husband's snoring due to apnea? i've been trying to get him to get something done to stop his snoring, and i'm pretty sure he has apnea. he won't go get it checked out though, and i thought maybe telling him about oral devic

Priot : Priot to undertaking any treatment for sleep apnea the following should be undertaken / determined because sleep apnea has many different causes each of which require different specific treatments.  Snoring, though frequently associated with sleep apnea, is not always amenable to treatment by an oral appliance.  Snoring is frequently due to elongation of the soft palate (roof of mouth) or due to the loss of tone of this tissue. Oral appliances are usually designed to position the lower jaw forward to open the lower airway and typically do not address the tissues of the roof of the mouth.  Surgical procedures to shorten the soft palate or to increase the stiffness of these tissues is usually required in cases such as this.

An assessment by a obstructive sleep apnea team should be performed. These teams are usually affiliated with a regional medical center / hospital. They will perform a history and physical to determine if there are any medical / pharmacological causes for your symptoms. You will be asked to undergo a sleep study to determine the presence of sleep apnea and to determine its severity and to further rule out causes. An apnea / hypopnea index will be determined.

Depending upon the serverity of the sleep apnea you will be offered treatment solutions by this team. Usually a trial of CPAP is encouraged. Occasionally an oral appliance or surgery may be recommended.

There are many types of oral sleep apnea appliances, each having their proponents. Typically, if an oral appliance is required, it is custom fabricated by either a dentist or oral and maxillofacial surgeon. You should seek care from a dentist / oral and maxillofacial surgeon who is board certified by their respective specialities and has an affilitation with your sleep apnea team.

is there a diabetes glucose checking device without pricking your finger?

Don't exist: There are no reliable glucose meters that work without getting a drop of blood.  Some advertisements will say "i don't need to stick my finger".  What they don't say is that you have to stick somewhere else, like your forearm, to get blood.  There are glucose sensors that place a small sensor under the skin and continuously monitor sugars but you still need to calibrate them twice daily with blood.

does it make sense to periodically check your blood sugar with a home device even if you don't have diabetes or prediabetes?

Not really: Hi. Unless you are at increased risk of developing diabetes, checking periodically at home is of no value. Finger stick blood glucose is not approved for diagnosis (diagnosis is based on serum glucose results), and non-medical people wouldn't know how to interpret the data. If you are obese, have a family history of type 2, have/had gestational diabetes, are high risk ethnic, etc, get screened

i have a breathing sensor for my 9 month old baby that has been going off irregularly lately (not every day) when i go in to check he is fine.
should i take him to get checked out or should the device sensitivity be checked?

Airway check: What does the sensor check to alert you?  Without knowing it's hard to answer, but concerning... Has he been checked for the proper tongue function? Is he breathing through nose?  Month-breathing is bad for his proper facial growth and sleep. See a myofunctional therapist/a dentist or physician trained in airway health. Tongue-tie is common yet often missed. Proper tongue position is critical!

Some of the ingredients used as an irritant include cinnamon, menthol or mint, ginger, niacin--even chili pepper. These products may  cause pain, and a severe rash.

whilst i was cycling i noticed my heart rate spiking quite drastically and would like to know what i can do to double check this, my device indicated 246 bpm, pls advise as there are no doctors open in the smart network ?

Heart rate: Devices read your electronic pulse or rythm strip which consists of pwave, QRS and T wave. The device typically reads the QRS.
For some people there QRS and Twave can be the same height and then the device will double up the rate. I personally do not use electronic devices when I exercise and simply take my own pulse.

Absolutely : Absolutely yes get your eyes checked as it can be convergence insufficiency but other more serious causes must be ruled out.
