Lymphadenopathy: Frequently, the lymph nodes respond to local infection or inflammation and are unilateral in the neck when the source of inflammation is on one side. If the node is not resolved after the infection is successfully treated, seel additional medical attention.

Doctor can evaluate: Swollen lymph nodes in the neck, along with a sore throat, can be strep throat. Many doctors can test a throat swab for strep throat in 5 minutes. Other causes of such symptoms include cold and flu viruses, pollen allergies, stomach acid reflux, etc... If it turns out to be strep throat, antibiotics such as amoxicillin are the usual treatment. Cold viruses typically go away in about 5-15 days.

It sure can!: The lymph nodes in the head and neck will enlarge whenever there is a problem above them.  So a sore throat, or other problem with your face, scalp, sinuses and ears can cause them to enlarge.  If they stay enlarged for more than a month, see your doctor.  It is also a good idea to get checked to be sure you don't have strep throat, which requires antibiotics to be effectively treated.

Sore throat/glands: While most of the sore throats are due to viral infection, but sore throat with swollen glands can be more than that.You need to consult your medical doctor to rule out strep throat which requires a course of antibiotics.It can also be a sign of infectious mononucleosis.So see your doc to find out what it is and get treated properly.

Need to be checked: Although this is usually nothing to worry about, it could be an infection your doctor can treat.  However, there's really no way to be 100% sure without someone performing a good exam.   Don't spend any more time wondering on this.  Please get it checked.

Muscle pain: Pain of a pulled muscle in your neck, or of  cervical spine, lots of structures in your neck with a lot of strain and different movements, also neck strain from using the computer/smart phone and faulty postures. Try rest and warm compresses, if pain doesn't resolve in few days or gets worse see your doctor, best wishes

Virus: Statistically, it's a viral infection.  If fever accompanies the sore throat, or it lasts for more than 72 hours, or  if your pain gets so bad to prevent even swallowing your saliva, then see your doctor.

Takes time....: Takes time to get rid of residual inflammation. A mouth spray (chorseptic) and NSAID can help your throat pain. "we are  still not in the time of getting better yesterday!".

i noticed i have a swollen lymph on the back of my neck just before the hairline should i be worried? i've had a dry cough since last week with body aches and a sore throat. my cough has calmed down a bit my body aches are gone my throat still hurts a lit

Are : Are we sure this is a lymph node? An isolated lymph node in the suboccipital area would be unusual unless there were inflammatory/infectious processes of the posterior scalp skin or very rarely spread of skin cancers. Did it appear at the time of your other symptoms or has it possibly been present for some time and you now just noticed it. Sebaceous cysts (blocked oil glands) or small lipomas (fatty tumors-benign) can be mistaken for a lymph node. If it persists beyond 3-4 weeks it would be reasonable to have it looked at. If it remains swollen and tender (not usually a characteristic of a malignant lymph node) a course of appropriate antiobiotics and short term oral steroids wouldn't be inappropriate.

Patience: If you feel you are getting better i would give it some more time. Your lymph nodes can stay swollen for months after an illness. If they are getting larger, or more numerous, that is a different story and see your doc asap.
