Not really: An infection like this can turn serious if not treated. You need antibiotics and may need an area drained. See if you can locate a free clinic somewhere in your area. In the meantime, try warm wet soaks with a washcloth over the area several times daily.

Doesn&#x27;t sound scary: As long as there is no redness etc extending widely in the area, this should clear up without problem. See a doctor if wider redness, fever, or if it closes up again, or if it doesn&#x27;t seem to be improving over the next few days. Location on the scrotum is no more dangerous than skin anywhere on the body.

Moist heat: Moist heat can often bring area to a “head” allowing the purulent fluid to drain out.  If you start developing redness or heat spreading around the area, consider being seen for possible drainage, cultures, and an antibiotic.

Removal: An ingrown hair may be causing a localized inflammatory reaction rather than an actual infection that would be treated by antibiotics. The hair should be extracted from the skin, and that should relieve the inflammation.

If Pilonidal, yes: If this is due to a pilonidal cyst, successful treatment may require surgery in order to excise the cyst contents. If not this could recur. Other standard cysts, abscesses or "boils" may drain spontaneously and may resolve on their own accord with warm soaks or may require incision, drainage and antibiotics.

Boil: Certainly could be a boil.  That is common in that area.  There are also some STD's that can give you symptoms like this but they are rare and generally more widespread.  If it is a boil it should be painful red and warm.  Will eventually come to a head and drain.

Antibiotics?: You'll probably need antibiotics and depending on the size of the boil possibly an incision and drainage.  Don't wait to get help, sometimes these can spread "down there" very fast and be life threatening....especially if you are a diabetic.  Go see your doctor and you'll be OK.
