is there a blood test that can tell if my spleen is enlarged?

Accepted Answer

No: Generally if it is big enough, a physician can feel it on physical exam.  Ultrasound or a ct scan would also be able to tell how big your spleen is.

Further tests ?: An ultrasound may help. Liver function tests can rule things out. Other viruses can cause this. If increasing in size, this will need definite evaluation and further work up.

Yes: some spleen enlargement would be expected if you have had infectious mono, but it seems that you didn't have the full blown picture. At any rate, avoiding contact sports for about 6 months after recovery is recommended, otherwise resume your daily life activities, best wishes

Whoa: Elevations in the ESR and CRP are famously nonspecific and are helpful only in zeroing in on already-identified health problems. However, i'm concerned about your enlarged liver and spleen. This will require a proper workup -- it'd be a great shame to miss smoldering hepatitis, wilson's, hemochromatosis, or medication / alcohol effects.

Depends on the: Cause of enlargement of the liver or spleen. Both can result in increase in ESR and crp. It is not the enlargement per se but the underlying pathology that increases the serum markers. The more the inflammation, the higher the levels.

Many possibilities: Often associated with viral infections such as EBV disease it may also occur with non-infectious inflammatory conditions and with some hematologic malignancies. Need for evaluation: High protein diet does not increase serum globulins. An enlarged spleen warrants an investigation to determine the cause and you need to consult your doctor for that.

Possibly : I’d D Dimer elevated and CT negative it’s reasuring for negative pulmonary embolism . CT coincidental findings as “ granuloma “ frequently refers to old scar tissue mist likely due to past sort of infection. Sarcoidosis and parasital disease is possible ... if doubt check w PCP and possibly lung specialist . Have regular exam and prevention in PCP office .

i tested positive for celiac disease through a blood test but waiting to get my biopsy done, but liver & spleen are enlarged can it be cancer?

Organomegaly: Celiac disease is not usually associated with enlargement of liver and spleen. While some leukemias/lymphomas might cause this, they are not common in your age group, and might be associated with abnormalities of CBC or other tests. If you have solid anti-gliadin antibody test, then a small bowel biopsy is probably not essential. Fatty liver, cirrhosis, circulatory issues might be worth excluding.

i have diverticulitis  and chronic prostatitis but  hematology blood test is normal can these infections cause for my spleen to be enlarged?

Splenomegaly: The spleen may enlarge in the presence of several infections. Nonetheless the ones you mention might only be implicated on a very theoretical basis. If your spleen is enlarged the overwhelming probability is that there is another reason.
