i had my blood drawn almost 2 weeks ago and i still have a bruise and it is still very sore. there is a purple spot on the bruise too. is this normal?

Vein trauma: Venapuncture normally doesn't leave a tender area that lasts two weeks unless the vein became inflamed(superficial phlebitis) or a blood clot under the skin developed. If warm packs don't improve the situation and there is a persistent tender clot, it may have to be removed by a small incision by a general or vascular surgeon. Discus this with your physician.

Accepted Answer

Common: This is a common occurrence after a blood draw. It will fade away in a few leeks like any bruise. If it starts to hurt worse or have redness that is spreading see your doctor.

had my blood drawn yesterday,now i have a bit of a bruise and pain sore pain under my armpit. is that normal?

Watch for Infection: The pain in the armpit is probably related to the skin needle prick that you had yesterday. Watch for any redness on your arm as that will indicate possible infection.. which tends to spread into lymph nodes in the armpit. If that is the case you may get chills or fever and more redness/pain in your arm. So next 24 hours you need to be watchful for infection, head to the ER in that case.

i had blood drawn ( 1 vile) over a week ago. my arm has been sore at the inside elbow where blood was taken. the pain is constant and is in my entire arm. there is not a lot of bruising but arthritic like uncomfortableness in my arm. concern?

: I would be concerned if there is redness, swelling or marked tenderness at the site of needle insertion.
If this area shows redness and swelling, you should see your doctor to make sure that you do not have local infection(cellulitis) which may require antibiotics to control it.

Bruise and swelling: May occur with blood draw. application of ice and analgesic will reduce the pain. The bruise may last a few more days

Hematoma: If you had just blood draw most likley vein " burst" and there was blood " spilled " to subcutaneous tissue creating massive hematoma - discoloration blue. it is tender and sore. best is to place ice to begin with and than " damp heat "  as towel rinsed in water and place on and one more layer dry towel. It is NOT a blood cloth. Cloth can occur more after IV indwelling catheter for while.

10 days: Usually a bruise resolves in 7 to 10 days.  It will change color from blue to green to yellow as it revolves.

Blood draws: Yes. Sometimes a bruise will develop. Sometimes a nerve will be bothered. Normal. Watch for hot, red skin if there is a problem.

Hematoma: After phlebotomy although minor trauma minor bleeding may occur around blood vessel. Also could develop minor phlebitis inside vein. If no signs of infection red hot swollen  should resolve on its own.
