DVT time frame: I don't believe there is a definitive time frame in regards to developing a blood clot.  Many factors need to be considered; patient age, medical conditions such as obesity and heart disease, smoking history among other things.  These conditions increase a persons risk of developing a blood clot.

diagnostic tests: A blood clot is usually diagnosed through ultrasound and blood tests.  Sciatica can be diagnosed by an MRI of the lumbar spine.  Speak to your doctor and they can determine the appropriate tests to run.

Purpura?: I'm a little confused by your question, as I have never seen a sunburn cause a blood clot. I believe you may be describing purpura, or a dark purple plaque that results from bleeding in the skin.  If that is the case, you don't need to be worried, but you should be more careful in protecting your skin since blistering sunburns increase your risk for melanoma. I hope this is helpful.

Maybe: Immobility is a risk factor in dvt, and we often warn patients on long flights to move often. A good rule is to stand and stretch every few hours if you end up having to sit for long periods of time.

Depends : Underlying source needs to be determined. If secondary to a certain condition treatment my  take care of problem. If its due to thrombin, drugs like Coumadin (warfarin) may help. If its due to platlets , asprin or Plavix type of meds may be useful. Need more info. Arterial vs venous clots also are treated diffrently. Need more data.

Hrs: Long bus and plane and train ride. More than 4 hrs. It depends on your inherent internal environment related risk factors.

Why do you ask?: This is the least of the concerns. Prolonged sitting as on a plane or being sick in bed are more risky. Passing out risks death from asphyxiation, aspiration, or being turned into an art project. Best wishes.
