Probably.: Even with inflammation at the sight of your surgery, and occasional beer probably will not hurt it. However, you should discuss this with your surgeon or gastroneurologist before tipping  one back. Good luck.

What kind?: Depends on the type of polyp found, their size, family history and pathology result if biopsied.  If benign, flat, small, nothing.  May need earlier repeat colonoscopy, usually in 3 to 5 years as opposed to 10.

Depends on pathology: Unless there is a pathologist on site, the polyps undergo a process of fixation, staining, sectioning, and interpretation. Most experienced gastroenterologists can however guess with about 90% accuracy whether a biopsied/removed polyp/nodule/mass/tumor has an appearance c/w cancer, &amp; what  further intervention for it may be needed. You should have biopsy results soon.

Nonspecific: Erythema is very nonspecific.  If there is erythema in isolation, it may not mean anything. But erythema along with ulcer, or friability (fragile tissue), or other findings can be associated with colitis.

Very rare: Cysts of the colon are extremely rare.  Most when found are in the mesentery or supportive structure of the bowel.  in even rarer instances as with  polyps detected by colonoscopy, lymphatic cysts that have developed and appear in region where polyps found are removed by colonoscopy.  They are rare, benign and reportable when found.

Polyps: colon polyps, there are many types, most of them benign. Some are called hyperplastic polyps (completely benign), others are tubular adenomas (pre-cancerous), etc.

Wait for histology: It can be anything from a little harmless hyperplasttuc polyp to a deadly cancer that may or may not be curable on resection. Location means basically nothing.

Juvenile polyposis: Mostly inherited, intestinal polyps occur in young people. They are not adenomas and are not malignant, but may be annoying. Repeated colon exams are done because of a lifetime risk of colon cancer of about 40 %. An uncoated [usually chewable] baby aspirin once a day reduces incidence of colon cancer and is recommended for life. A larger dose is not better. Coated aspirin may not work.

can endometriosis of the bowel be found during a colonoscopy?

Accepted Answer

Possibly: Typically endometrial implants are on the outside of the colon and are not commonly seen during a colonoscopy which looks at the inside of the colon. A laparoscopy would be a better test.

i am a 46 yr old female, 16mm sessile semi-flat adenomatous polyp found in colonoscopy that was otherwise normal, resected and removed during the procedure. recommended follow up colonoscopy in 3 years, is this soon enough? risk? no family history?

: I would discuss your detailed FH of GI cancer with Dr. And move to an eating plan likely to decrease risk of cancer such as DASH.
