Contribution: We think most mental illness is caused by both biological vulnerability and environmental factors. Trauma and your reactions to it are certainly part of the picture. Both the ptsd and the mood disorder require attention and treatment. Both are targets of treatment.

in the past my g/f suffered from ptsd, but she's doing real well now. she might also be bipolar, how do i tell for sure? (she is also misophonic.)

Meds psychotherapy: Get her a full psychiatric evaluation to assess for PTSD and bipolar symptoms, and see if medications are warranted. Next, find a reputable psychotherapist nearby who specializes in PTSD./Bipolar disorder. Generally speaking, meds and psychotherapy together are the best approach.

Very worrisome: Discuss with your psychiatrist..  However, with this many serious conditions - my guess is that your medications were carefully titrated. There is risk with stopping - there is marked risk with stopping all of them.

See your therapist! : Relationships truly can be challenging for most people and so deciding on when or how to get out of a relationship is very personal. However, you need to share your self harm thoughts with your therapist and/psychiatrist asap. They most likely know your history and would be able to assist you the best.

Ask the: provider who made the diagnosis which criteria were met. Is "pdoc" used as an abbreviation for psychiatrist or primary care physician? It would be best if the diagnosis was made by a psychiatrist or psychologist who has done a careful assessment using DSM criteria.

There may be: significant overlap in symptoms of borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. Some doctors might be quick to label  some who engages in self-mutilation borderline. However, self- mutilation can occur in other contexts. Comprehensive evaluation is needed to tease these symptoms apart.
