i have a big white bump in my head it's been here for over 6 months and still has not popped by itself it doesn't hurt but what could it be?

Sebaceous cyst: It is probably a small cyst, also called a "wen", which is common on the scalp. The oil glands in the scalp get blocked with dead skin, and the oil/skin builds up under the skin to form the cyst. Nothing has to be done if they don't bother you. Sometimes they can get infected, then you have to see a dr. They can get quite large at times, and need to be drained. This can be done in the dr office.

How tall are you?: A bump on your head is usually from bumping into something.  If uncertain and you have a headache with it or dizziness or disequilibrium. If severe go to the er otherwise see pcp.

Head injury: It sounds like she is fine but if the bump is huge yoheu may just want to run it by yuour pediatrican to make sure there is no fracture of the skull bome. Msot of the fracture if at all are nondispalced nad heal by themselves btu it is good to have it established just in case (for future).

No: A bump is a sign of a good hard knock but doesnt indicate presence of head injury or tbi. A head injury usually includes headache, confusion or altered conciousness if in doubt take this one to the er.

Monitor: It is most likely due to the birth process, so  your baby should have had it since birth. If its something red or tender, you should seek medical attention. The majority of the "bumps" from birth go away on their own in a few weeks. Monitor the size, it should get smaller over time.

New bump: Bumps in the scalp may be oil filled cysts (sebaceous).  Bumps can also be due to swollen lymph glands and deserve to be checked by a doctor.  Worrisome symptoms include: bumps that don't do away, tenderness or pain, drainage or general symptoms such as fatigue, night sweats or weight loss.

Could be permanent..: If you injured your scull - as bruise .Hematoma ( blood collection in subcutaneous tissue) heals over time - body uses its mechanism for absorbing it .But hematomas close to bone surface ( as shin, scull) May create persistent ” bump” due to deposits of calcium to hematoma as process of healing. Inflammation or hematoma attracts calcium . It become just cosmetic annoyance.

Maybe/not: Your description is too vague to speculate a cause. Skin/hair issues usually require a visual exam for proper assessment. If it bothers you have the kid seen. Scalp ringworm requires prescription meds.
