Not likely: Topical steriods are generally safe to use in pregnancy , breast-feeding and with the use of birth control pills. Only if over-used -- too much application for too long a period of time does enough absorption occur to create potential problems.

i've had psoriasis for ~15 years but it's gotten worse.  i've applied betamethasone but topical is becoming impractical.  are there other options?

Methotrexate, Enbrel (etanercept): Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease involving the white blood cells attacking the skin as if it was bacteria or a virus.Low dose weekly Methotrexate is very effective in treating psoriasis--the way it works is not completely understood but decades of use show it is a reliable and safe drug (no alchohol! while taking). Enbrel (etanercept) is a newer highly effective drug that neutralizes tnf, inflammatory protein.

The : The Betamethasone and the clobetasol are both steroids, therefore it is probably not a good idea to mix these together since steroids can cause thinning of the skin when used in high amounts or over prolonged periods of time. As far as the the other two ointments, there is no interaction as far as i can tell from my research; however you should consult the prescribing doctor or your local pharmacist to be sure.

All steroids (derivatives of cholesterol) work by altering gene expression, worsen blood glucose control (Diabetes Mellitus) &amp; suppress immune system functions (can thus aggravate infections). Often fairly safe short-term if young &amp; apparently healthy, yet can also backfire.

: Things other than yeast can cause the same symptoms. If the diagnosis is certain (professionally diagnosed), this probably will work well. See a doctor if it doesn't clear up after using the cream.

Neither.: There is no "better" or "worse" among topical corticosteroids. (i'm assuming you are talking about topicals, but Dexamethasone is also given orally.) both are mid-strength anti-inflammatory creams. Betamethasone is probably more popular in this country, but i don't know of any particular reason for that.
