A volatile solvent: Many times a herpetic (cold sore) lesion can be aborted if caught in the premonition phase (when you feel the burning sensation) by the topical application of a volatile solvent such as ether or chloroform. 
I should be applied topically with a q-tip and sparingly. Dab it with the solvent three or four times and repeat a few hours later.
If an ulcer forms, topical antiviral agents are needed.

Need an exam: I suggest you see an ENT doctor for evaluation.  Are you on nasal steroid sprays or steroid asthma inhalers?  Possibilities include  laryngopharyngeal reflux, post nasal drip, yeast infection, foreign object.    Tumor is of low likelihood in your age group.

Treat symptoms: There is no treatment that will make a cold go away so you just need to treat the symptoms. For runny nose use an antihistamine like loratadine. For cough use robitussin DM or cough drops. For stuffy nose use a decongestant or nasal saline. For low grade fevers use tylenol.

They are not: Permanently 'removed'. Melissa officinalis or lemon balm (cream) expedites healing of cold sores. It can reduce healing time by half. Studies also show that regular use can help v recurrences.  Brief supplementation with lysine 1, 000mg orally three times a day at the onset, can also hasten healing. Your physician can prescribe oral valtrex (valacyclovir). Laser treatments are also used to treat cold sores.
