A therapist will work with you to restore motion, strengthen all muiscle groups needed for the hip joint and ambulation and then will begin balance, ambulatin and endurance exercises.  Occupational therapy may be involved.  This can go on for up to 4-6 weeks and beyond

The question is what implant has your surgeon had the most success with?  First, feel comfortable with your surgeon. No: Bone loves titanium, but its wrong to think that any one metal is "best".  Titanium is a soft metal and bone can grow into titanium cementless-type porous ingrowth implants very effectivley making fixation secure.  Being soft makes it a poor bearing surface for metal-on-metal implants which use harder cobalt chrome alloys.  Different metals have different properties, but no one metal is "best".

Depends??: Treatment for hip arthritis is limited. If pain can be controlled with nsaids and the patient can tolerate them that is an option. If her pain is disabling and her health is good hip replacement may be a good option. As our population continues to age and life expectancy increases it is becoming more common to do hip surgery in the elderly.

Many options: There are many choices when it comes to the materials used for hip replacement surgery.  The most thorough study of implants materials to date comes from the Australian Joint Replacement Registry- an extremely large collection of data from thousands of surgeries.  The best material at this time seems to be Oxidized Zirconium (known as Oxinium) with highly cross-linked polyethylene.
