Fungal Nails: Fungal infection of the nails is common, & no otc meds are proven to clear it. That said, it is usually a cosmetic problem & not a functional one. Nail polish won't hurt & will cover up the problem, which is often enough. There are medicines that can clear fungus from nails, but they can be expensive, & interact w/other meds. See your dr for more information.

Agents available in the United States include ciclopirox olamine 8% and efinaconazole 10% nail solutions. Amorolfine and bifonazole/urea are available outside of the United States. No: to my knowledge, only prescription oral meds, ie lamisel 250, are available to treat nail fungus....there is a topical prescription also available, but not very effective, in my experience....dr. murray wellner
