Not one: Newer antihistamines work to stop itching and sneezing, but unfortunately do little to stop drainage. Older antihistamines may have some ability to stop mucus production, but have side effects like drowsiness. Daily saline rinse for the nose (eg, neti pot) can help. See your doctor or an allergist--there may be prescription meds (eg, ipratropium nasal spray) that can better treat your symptoms.

Nasal steroid: Nasal steroid will likely be more effective than any antihistamine. However one needs to rule out sinus infection as the cause also. If nasal steroid did not affect your drips after a week of daily use, consider seeing an allergist.

THEY WON'T HELP MUCH: Other than drying it up a bit and thickening it, which can cause cough. The key in trying to eliminate postnasal drip is to cut the inflammatory or environmental response that it is caused by.

Antihistamines: Would help the sneeze, the itchiness, and to a lesser extent the secretions. Mucous flow is generally due to inflammation, which can be due to allergies, viruses, irritants, etc..so the key in management is to reduce the inflammation of whatever reason. Proper assessment by an ENT / an Allergist is what you need, good luck

Probably safe: There is no major side effect from taking this type of antihistamine  long term (not yet approved in US) but a small percentage of people may experience drowsiness and weight gain.  It may potentially impact memory function among people with memory impairment.

Your dr can: prescribe medications for you. Post nasal drip often lasts for weeks. Congestion – saline nose drops or netti pot. For anti-inflammatory effect &amp; mobilizing mucus- homemade chicken noodle soup.  Hydrate- lots of water/clear broth/ add honey &amp; a small amt. of lemon juice to Chamomile tea.

Post nasal drip: Absolutely.  Your stomach does not recognize mucus from food.  All it knows is that there is something in there and will cause acid to be produced in order to try and digest it.   This acid over time can lead to irritation of the stomach lining that can cause someone to feel nauseated. You need to be: treated for the underlying cause as well as symptoms. You treating yourself with otc medications that is fine but see specialist   doctors to get treated for the underlying cause. If it is deviated septum of the nose you need septoplasty, if acid reflux or allergies are the cause you need to be treated to eliminate those causes.

Most likley: Your symptoms are due to the overactive release of histamine caused by your allergies.  Once your season dies down, your symptoms should also improve as well.  You may want to see an allergist if the symptoms persist after your allergy season.

No: In fact Zyrtec may help control a dry cough when the cough is caused by post-nasal drips.  I note that you have reflux as well and this can certainly cause a dry cough. Cough-variant asthma in which cough is the only symptom is another potential cause since allergic rhinitis are often associated with asthma.
