Try sleep hygiene.: Retire &amp; rise same time each day. Keep bedroom dark &amp; cool &amp; use only for sex &amp; sleep. Turn off tv. No naps. Exercise regularly but not in late evening. No caffeine for 6 hrs &amp; no alcohol or tobacco w/i 2 hrs of sleep. Keep dinner moderate sized &amp; finish at least 2 to 3 hrs before sleep. Can try warm milk, Chamomile tea  along w light reading, warm bath or lavender scent. I would try melatonin &gt;

it takes me hrs to go to sleep,i take benadryl for allergies so now im taking two and im taking 10mg of melatonin.cant take sleeping pills cause of benadryl,i do drink coffee but just 1 a day,not at night,what am i doing wrong that i cant sleep?

: Most prescribed sleeping pills are not nephrotoxic but taking sleeping pill every night is not a good idea. Both benadryl and melatonin are the common meds for insomnia but they are not always effective. Behavior therapy and sleep hygiene are the best treatments. Avoid daytime nap, keep yourself busy all days (mind and body), go to bed the same time, no toss and turn &amp; do deep breathing technique.

Taper off!: You have likely become habituated to this medication.  Putting multiple times recommended amounts of any substance or chemical is to be discouraged.  There have been reports of overdoses with respiratory depression and hallucinations at high doses of benadryl (diphenhydramine).  Your body will process what it can, store what it can't until you reach a toxic level.  That level is different for everyone.

Dry skin: bathe hi with a cream soap and moisturize his skin right after, that would help him sleep better, wouldn't advise giving more of antihistamines at this age, if not controlled please revisit his doctor or an allergist, good luck

my daughter is 21 months and i think she got bit by something. she started with a nickel size red spot on side of face and it was a lil crusty. now her whole side of face and side of forehead swollen. i gave her a dose of benedryl  and  now she's sleeping

Pediatrician: This type of reaction to a facial bite is quite concerning and must be evaluated by your pediatrician or emergency room physician as soon as possible. Facial infection, if present,must be treated promptly and appropriately. Hopefully this is just a pronounced allergic reaction to the bite, but infection must be checked for.

Melatonin: Generally Melatoin and Bendadryl are safe for sleep.  The melatonin can be taken up to 10 mg at bedtime. In general, over 10 mg does not show any more benefit . However, most people get help with 2 mg to 5mg.  I would look into why your are not sleeping. Anxiety, stimulants, hectic life style.
