after an 8hr shift my knees and ankles are swollen. after a 12hr shift i'm in pain from lower abdomen with bad knee pain. what could this be?

Bad veins?: consider using compression stockings 18-20 mmHg, and elevate your legs after a long shift.  Ask a doctor for US to measure vein reflux.   It is just one possibility- but a car main problem .

during exercise i got sharp pain under my ribcage (r/s) just below my breast & inner side of my right knee. pain is not shooting (through whole leg + abdomen) but hurts at 2 different points simultaneously when bending over or bearing weight on knee?

: I don't think using this forum is the best way to be sure what is going on, you need an in-person examination. My guess is that your brain is connecting the pains when there is only a problem in the knee, I am not sure. Does the chest hurt to touch? Muscle, joint and ligament problems require an in-person examination which I wish I can reach out and do via the internet but I can't.

Unrelated symptoms: I would say that depending on the severity and aggravating vs alleviating factors, based on the number of symptoms, it is likely a central cause.
Differential diagnosis includes neurologic (i.e Multiple Sclerosis, fibromyalgia, neurogenic claudication), autoimmune (lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, amyloidosis), and vascular (claudication)...or some combination thereof.

Not necessarily at -: All. There isn't much to go on to make a diagnosis like that.
Get him see his pcp to be evaluated with an examination and some labs. While any disease is a possibility, its not very probable, as there are more common causes of painful knee in a 18 year old.
Do yourself a favor and stop worrying, by getting him into seeing his pcp soon.

: The only way to know for sure is to get tested. If you had protected sex, you likely do have an STD but testing is the only way to be certain. SO, see your doctor and get tested so you can treat it if positive and be reassured if negative. Good luck!

i am taking 600mg ibuprofen 3x/day for knee pain post surg. what can i take to protect my stomach? is prilosec ok? how often can i take it?

Acid blocker: You can take Prilosec 20mg daily along with the ibuprofen.  If you notice any stomach discomfort, I would take 1-2 teaspoonfuls of an antacid such as Mylanta or Maalox.  In addition, if your incisions are closed well, I would ask your physician for some sample Lidoderm patches to see if the lidocaine applied overtop of your knee gives additional pain relief without needing to add additional meds.

Probably &gt; 1 cause: Could be viral symptoms, esp if fever present. If these persist or worsen give your PCP a visit.

PCO: You did not say how often you are taking that medication. If you are taking it on a daily basis ir just for 5, 10 or 15 days. Always consider pregnancy if you missed your period. If pregnancy, it might be too early to show a positive pregnancy test. However, depending on how you are taking that med, periods might be normal or very light. More info is needed to help you more.

Try MSM: MSM methyl sulfonate methane, either by itself or mixed with glucosamine or chondroitin usually help. Straight MSM 1500 mg 4x a day for a couple of days, then down to 3x for a couple of days,then 2 x day  should help. Puritans Pride has a good and reasonable product. If it helps stay on the lowest dose
