Try MSM: MSM methyl sulfonate methane, either by itself or mixed with glucosamine or chondroitin usually help. Straight MSM 1500 mg 4x a day for a couple of days, then down to 3x for a couple of days,then 2 x day should help. Puritans Pride has a good and reasonable product. If it helps stay on the lowest dose

Knee pain: Your issue as you have stated is soft tissue damage and not cartilage. While there are conflicting reviews on the use of Chondroitin/glucosamine I still feel that its worthwhile taking this and trying it out. However it will probably not do much for soft tissue injury.
