Not really.: Currently, there is no intervention that has been shown to prevent the development of barrett esophagus or its progression to esophageal cancer.  Esophagectomy and endoscopic mucosal resection or ablation may be done in cases of high-grade dysplasia.  A nissen fundoplication can reduce the reflux of acid from the stomach into the esophagus.

Barrett’s.: Being. The traditional doctor that I am, I cannot support attempting to heal the known precancerous condition of Barrett’s esophagus with such means.  Precancerous things have the real potential to become cancerous things.  Barrett’s esophagus requires treatment and surveillance endoscopic evaluations coordinated by a Gastroenterologist.

Not true: This related to the acid reflux you have into your esophagus. There is treatment if you have not been taking this. You will need surveillance for this however you are not dying so : Watch what you eat, stop smoking if you do, reduce or stop the alcohol, reduce the caffeine and follow the docs instruction.

Lining changes: Barrett's esophagus is a change in the appearance of the lining of the esophagus.  It changes to a lining that one would typically find in the intestine, and not the esophagus.  This is generally caused by chronic acid damage of the esophagus lining. Left unchecked, a small percentage will progress to cancer over years. It can be treated with medicine and/or surgery.

New dx of Barrett's: Barrett's esophagus is not something to play around with! barrett's epithelium occurs as a terminal event in those with chronic gerd. Barrett's patients risks cancer of the esophagus. Poorly treated barrett's can progress by replacing more & more of the esophagus lining, & can become dysplastic. Barrett's warrants surveillance endoscopy, aggressive acid suppression, & maybe ablation &/or surgery.
