Generic: It appears that a formal dysphagia diet was made. It is usually followed by a swallow evaluation, either clinical at the bedside or functional in the form of a modified Barium swallow. Based on above specific recommendations are made with regard to food, solid/liquid consistency.

Avoid Dumping syn.: SO you have had Gastric By Pass surgery /Bariatric surgery !. Please follow the dietary instruction given to you. Vitamin B and D supplement ,Electrolyte supplements like Calcium and Magnesium and Iron supplements are also necessary.High Sugar containing food may cause you to have Diarrhea .

Depends: Each surgeon has their own protocol for diet after surgery. And it often depends on which procedure you have done. Generally speaking, however, you will likely be on liquids for a short period of time, and then advance from there to soft diet, to regular food. Just less of it.

Immediately: If this is related to a typical viral vomiting illness in the child, then immediately.  The key is to give small amounts at a time, then gradually increase the volume as baby tolerates.  Watch wet diapers, want to have one every 8 hours or so. Wash your hands! Best of Luck!

See your surgeon: you need to see your surgeon to make sure that there is no leak that will irritate the diaphragm and cause all this symptoms.

Options: Lifestyle modifications (Exercise, Diet), Gastric Ballon (self-pay), or self-payed surgery (Gastric sleeve).

is it normal to have daily diarrhea after hiatal hernia surgery and on a pureed diet?

Not normal.: C.difficile enterocolitis is a possibility. Often  peri-operative antibiotics adversely affect the bacterial content of the colon resulting in an overgrowth of a bug called clostridium difficile. This causes inflammationc of the colon lining with resultant severe diarrhea. Stool culture is needed to make confirm the diagnosis. But if diagnostic tests are positive, vancomycin and/or Flagyl is used.

Bariatric surgery: I have several patients in my practice who have had various types of bariatric surgery and they all have problems with their iron levels and fat absorption.   They have to get iron infusions pretty regularly.  It is unfortunate, but that is my clinical experience as a primary care physician.
