The : The only situations I have heard of anyone choking from mucous is in an elderly person that lived alone and was not able to clear their airway by coughing, however this is very rare. 
What medication are you allergic to? If you have a bronchitis or pneumonia you may need antibiotics, there are many to choose from if allergies are a concern. Drinking water will help thin the mucous secretions along with a daily anti-histamine. I suggest you go back to your doctor for alternative treatment options.

can i take robbutison dj with claritin d ? i have a bad cough with mucus and stuffy nose ? do these interact with eachoher or is it bad

Accepted Answer

Yes.: Claritin is a non-sedating antihistamine. The D portion is a decongestant, either pseudoephedrine or phenylephrine. Robitussin (plain, guaifenesin or DM, which also has dextromethorphan) are both compatible with claritin. These can all be taken together.  (I assume the "dj" you wrote was a typo; if not, please clarify and resubmit your question.) Feel better!

i've had a bad cough with green mucus for almost a week. also i've felt very run down, some chills and very cold like. that's gone away but not the cough and mucus. will this go away or do i need to see a doctor?

Depends: Typically these symptoms are initially caused by a virus. Most viruses resolve after about one week though cough can persist longer. Viruses cause secretions and bacteria love standing water. Return of fever (chills), shortness of breath, or persistently productive cough would be signs of secondary bacterial infection and antibiotics can help. If not improving or getting worse next 4 days see doc.

Yes: Yes you can have those symptoms.  Reference: drugs.comNervous system side effects of dextromethorphan have included drowsiness and dizziness. Adverse effects, which have occurred at higher doses, include excitation, mental confusion, and opioid like respiratory depression. In some cases of abuse, patients have experienced euphoria, hyperactivity, mania, and auditory and visual hallucinations.

Dr. can check throat: Throat symptoms can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or other virus (antibiotics usually not used), allergies or irritants, sinusitis, stomach reflux when asleep, etc... Usually, a person sees the doctor if the throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep and review the story to see if sinusitis or reflux might be a cause).

Antibiotics: Antibiotics are only inidcated if there is evidence of a bacterial infection.  Most causes of fever and cough in an otherwise healthy 29yo are not due to bacterial infection - they are dfo to viral infection.

See your doc: Small amounts of blood-tinged mucus can mean a bacterial infection. See your doc and get evaluated. More than a tbsp of blood is more worrying and, of course, if there is a lot more than that you should head to the Emergency Room.  If you have shortness of breath, constant chest pain, (not just when you cough), or fever over 101 F, you need to go to the ER in that case, too.  Hope you feel better!

had a cold for 13 days: bad cough, mucus, blocked/ bloody nose. i coughed a lot, i hurt my right rib cage, now pain when i breathe. how can i help it?

Costrocondritis: Inflammation and possibly a pulled muscle from coughing.. Tylenol will help. An over the counter cough suppressant would be a good idea too. Since it’s been present for almost 2 weeks, it would be a good idea to see your doctor.

Bloody mucous: Sinusitis, adenoiditis and nasal allergy would be the most common causes/ much rarer causes would include inhaled foreign body, varoius pneumonias and tuberculosis.
