May or may not: Bad breath (halitosis) is usually a multifactorial occurrence.  The most plausible cause is the luffy epithelial layer of the tongue, which can collect and hide millions of bacterias and chemicals, hence  the bad taste or odor.  Many foods and drinks can exacerbate such process. Other factors are accumulation of plaque &  tartar build up between the teeth & restorations, cavities, & sinus drainage.

i have chronic dry mouth and bad breath. no dental problems and no medication. no smoke or drink. causes? who should i see for help? gland problems?

Might be: Chronic dry mouth can be of neurological or endocrine (glandular) origin. It could lead to breath issues as well. If you aren't taking any meds, many of which have this as a side effect, a visit to your primary care provider could be helpful to figure out the dry mouth. One thing that can help bad breath for many is to add brushing the top of your tongue to your oral hygiene regimen.

Bad breath: A foul odor coming from the mouth is usually bacterial. Very often from bacteria housed in tartar (calculus). Getting your teeth cleaned by a hygienist regularly is very important. Another area can be the back of the tongue. Be sure to brush your tongue or use a tongue scraper.

Either: Both types of mouthwash are going to have agents in them that will kill bacteria that tend to cause bad breath.  If you are aware of halitosis, be sure to brush your tongue well, especially toward the back.  This is a common source for bad breath.  Also be sure to get your teeth cleaned at the dentist if it has been a while.  Mouthwash helps, but often just covers up the real problem.

Mouth rinses: All mouth rinses only mask and offer temporary relief, at best, for bad breath. The cause, dental or medical or both have to be addressed for maintaining a fresher breath. Start by seeing your dentist for an evaluation and advice.

Brush your tongue: Try brushing your tongue.  The top surface of the tongue is made up of many finger like projections.  Plaque and other things can get caught there and cause discoloration as well as bad breath.
