Sometimes: There are pediatric radiologists that can often offer an opinion on the age of any fracture based on any signs of healing on the x-rays. No healing at all would suggest more recent injury. It is not an exact science but does provide some information.

Skull fracture: The most common symptoms of basilar skull fracture are bruising around one or both eyes (a black eye) without known injury or blow to this area of the face; may also get blood behind the ear on the side of the fracture.  Less commonly there may be leakage of spinal fluid from the nose or the ear.

8-12 weeks: Each child is different. Some kids recover fast and some take a little more time. They should do an x-ray a few days down the road to make sure she is healing properly. I'm hoping they did a cat scan when it happened to make sure she didn't have any bleeding in her brain which is somewhat common after a skull fracture.Good luck.

Not likely a fractur: A fracture is highly likely to be painful. Keep an eye on the red bump to make sure it is going away over days and not enlarging.

Yes: Skull fractures don't come from "bouncy-bouncy".And this may well be "abuse".

: Skull fractures in infants often self-heal. If there is a depressed fracture &amp; it doesn't require a procedure  to raise the depression it is left alone. Monitoring for a period is usually done in case the covering (dura) may be trapped in the break &amp; prevent healing. I do not recall any that I encountered with this description ever requiring any special treatment. They all healed.

Yes: Yes, in part because the mental status of the person, and therefore their ability to report pain, may be altered as well.  There is also a condition known as a delayed subdural hematoma which can occur after the original injury.  Don't hesitate to be seen and thoroughly evaluated.

baby born with skull fracture (ping pong) with no brain injury showed on ct scan. baby is 2 months now and the fracture resolved spontaneously and baby is thriving. could this fracture still cause him any brain damage or development delays ?

Accepted Answer

: If the fracture is well healed, and the CT was essentially "normal", this incident will have no serious effects on developmental progress.  Consult your pediatrician to assess neurologic developmental progress.
