i'm 38 weeks pregnant. my dr. is aware that i struggle with addiction. he said he will test the baby when he is born, how long does meth stay in my babies system? and if i'm clean, does the dr have the right to test the baby.

Yes: If you consumed any drugs after 20 wks gestation the doc is likely to find evidence in babies system. Both you and baby are subject the child protection laws of the state. The doc is required by that law to act on any suspicion of drug exposure to protect that baby's life as a new citizen. If you have remained clean, no problem, if not, you must deal with it. Baby can also show drug withdrawal.

how long is an infant protected from the flu shot given to a pregnant woman in the 3rd trimester? i got the 4 virus version.

Hard to be sure: The antibodies built during pregnancy are pushed into baby at a level higher per pound than mom retains. That said, all such antibodies begin to age out and become less effective with time. By 3-6 mo there is little if any left. Since there are always a few more flu strains circulating than the ones they can put in the vaccine, it is important to avoid exposure as the primary form of prevention

i am now at 38 weeks, the baby had been in position head down from 31st to 37th week, but now seems having unstable lie position. any advice for this?

Ultrasound: Sometimes baby is very active and pregnant woman thinks that baby is changing position frequently. Presenting part can be verified by ultrasound. If head is not a presenting part, then external  cephalic version can be discussed prior to delivery, if there are no contraindications. If it is successful, baby can be delivered vaginally.

can a baby move from vertex to breech position after 38 weeks? he is in vertex position from the very beginning.currently he is at -1 station

Accepted Answer

Yes: It is possible for the fetal presentation to change at term but it is unlikely especially with the  vertex at -1 station. If you are worried that the baby has flipped discuss your concern with your obstetrician at your next visit.

No worries: The most common way for a fetus to present at 38 weeks is with the back of the head closest to the cervix and turned slightly to the mother's left. This is termed left occiput anterior, or loa. Although loa is the most common presentation, roa, or right occiput anterior, is not uncommon and is not associated with any increased complications.

It happens: The space limitations late in pregnancy make position change unlikely at 38 wks, but it happens. Some docs may set up to try a "version" maneuver, to change the position, but this is usually done at the hospital with the operating room ready for an urgent c-section. The maneuver is not without risks for mom and baby.

NO : Baby is in an ideal position. Engagement and position of the baby does not necessarily tally with when labor will happen though. All the best.

Unlikely to help.: We use this position when the baby's heart rate goes down, since it can potentially relieve the pressure on the umbilical cord, if cord compression is what's causing the heart rate to drop. This position may theoretically be able to help when the baby is facing the ceiling (occiput posterior) rather than the floor (occiput anterior). Unlikely to turn breech. Ask doc about external cephalic version.

10 times in  2hours : Generally the baby,s movements seem to slow down by 38weeks due to less space  ,and less amniotic fluid , to move around in,    but many obstetricians advice the mother to count the movements for about 2 hrs  Normally the mother would feel  at least    10 kicks or so . However , if the mother notes a significant change in movements , she should be checked by the doctor.

if a baby is engage at 38 weeks can it be disengage?

Unusual: It's unusual for a baby to disengage once engaged.
